Historical Geophysical Instrumentation Exhibition
The Toledo Geophysical Observatory has been carrying out an important work in recent years to recover the geophysical instrumentation that has been used in the different Geophysical Observatories of IGN (Spanish Geographic Institute) throughout its more than one hundred years of history.
In addition to the instrumentation maintained at the Toledo Observatory, instruments preserved in the rest of IGN observatories have been compiled either complete, disassembled, or only preserved in part instruments. All of them have been transferred to the workshops of the Toledo Observatory, where a hard work of restoration and reconstruction of historical instruments is being carried out, along with an exhaustive work of documentation and research on the incomplete or dismantled instruments.
The result of this work is the "Exhibition of Historical Geophysical Instrumentation" that is currently on display at the Geophysical Observatory of Toledo. With more than 80 instruments restored, the exhibition consists of two main collections on Seismological and Geomagnetic Instrumentation, completed with another collection of Meteorological Instrumentation used as support in Geophysical Observatories. Throughout the route there is a complete collection of clocks and chronographs that served to give time signals to the different geophysical recorders, as well as other auxiliary instruments used in the Observatories.
